I’ve been up late for the last two nights trying to learn database development through Dreamweaver. Most of the time has been spent just working on establishing a connection with the server. I was able to get a form developed, but it’s not a well laid out as I’d like. I still have to get the actual database going, no clue how to begin there. Tried finding a way to convert what I have in Access, but that has not gone well. My guess is that this’ll take some time to get right.

It’s a bit strange…. As i begin to develop this site, folks from the past are coming out of the woodwork. I’m hearing from folks that have not been in contact for some time. It’s a nice feeling. Also, I’ve begun to set up a sister site called Songs From the Basement, that will serve another function in my master plan. More on that later……
With luck, I’ll be able to “collect” more artists for the site as time goes by. At the moment, I’m hoping to learn to develop databases, so I can add some additional features to this site. Hopefully, it’s not going to be too hard to pick up the basics.

I seem to have the blog set up at this point and I’m playing around with different themes for its display. I’m also beginning to float my ideas for a podcast out there, but I need to do more research on the nuts and bolts of the process. The Artists page has one full rack of links; I’m hoping to add more in the future if I can spark some interest.
Next steps include learning more about databases and setting up the original one from the Music Festival. In my spare time, I should probably go to work…..

The goal of this blog is to document the process of developing this website. While I’ve had the space available for some time, I’ve not had the time nor inspiration to do anything with it. Now that, through a lot of different circumstances, I have a bit of free time, I figured it was good to begin developing the idea that was in the back of my head.
While I intend to use parts of this site to promote my own music, I also wanted to point out the work of other musicians I’ve had contact with. As is stated on the home page, music is moving away from a centrally located business to a spread out and more independent model of distribution. The internet, and computer technology, allows musicians more control over what they do and how they distribute their wares. There’s a lot of really good music out there that not many people know about.
Along with this, I have an interest in the creative process when it comes to recording. One of my hopes is to get folks to talk about how they get from raw idea to finished recording. I’m also thinking about the idea of a podcast that interviews artists about that process. We’ll see……
